Zeta Chapter ( Wenatchee, WA. USA) member visits Delta Chapter ( Rastede, Germany)
My husband Ken and I travel frequently to Germany and I decided to contact International Headquarters in Austin, Texas to inquire regarding chapters in Germany. We learned of several, but chose to contact Marika Heimbach, President of Delta Chapter in Rastede because Ken has family in nearby city of Oldenburg.
After sending an email and receiving Marika’s enthusiastic response, we made plans and date to meet. Marika came to our motel where we were staying, picked us up and took us to her house for a wonderful welcoming dinner including champagne - what a celebration of newly -discovered friendship and “sisterhood”. On the next day she invited other chapter members to meet for coffee and cake.
At this initial meeting, Marika invited me to the State Convention in Meissen, Germany. After the convention she invited us to stay a week and she took time off from teaching to be our tour guide and show us her wonderful area and explain history.
Marika and I email constantly, send photos back and forth, look forward to seeing each other at future conventions and have already made plans for her to stay with us a few days in conjunction with the International Convention in Spokane in 2010. Ken and I plan to visit Germany before then.
Meeting and making friendships with Delta Kappa Gamma sisters around the world is one of the most enriching, thrilling experiences of my lifetime! I heartily endorse and support this program.
